Ambrosia artemisiifolia L. (fam. Asteraceae) has been observed along the banks of the river Danube near Petrovaradin, Sremski Karlovci, and Novi Sad, as well as near Bogojevo, Odzaci, Bac, and Backa Palanka. This invasive, weedy-ruderal and quarantine species spreads northwards to the environs of Kula, Begec and Futog in the region of Backa, as well as in central and southern Banat. Over the period 2006-2007, studies of ragweed distribution and its mapping were performed on over 90 ha of non-agricultural land, i.e. on over 100 locations in 21 city zones of Novi Sad. In 2006, ragweed was found on about 200 locations of the 400 ha of non-agricultural land fully checked in the suburban areas of Novi Sad. In the territory of Zrenjanin, a systematic inspection of ragweed detected it on a total of 93090 square meter in the past two years. In 2006 and 2007, mapping of this invasive weed species was performed using a special software Amrosia Spot Marker developed specially for this purpose. The abundance and distribution of ragweed were recorded in the software according to the Brauen-Blanquet method. Based upon these data, the lowest toxicity chemical control measures for this invasive weed species were determined in combination with mechanical ones.
