Application of 31P nuclear magnetic resonance for study of phosphorus structural types in humic acids

Soil phosphorus can exist in various inorganic and organic forms. In Slovak soil types proportion of organic phosphorus from total phosphorus varies from 23 to 45 %. The objective of this paper was to use phosphorus nuclear magnetic resonance (3IP-NMR) to evaluate the content of different phosphorus structural types in humic acids isolated from three different soil types (Molic Fluvisol, Dystric Planosol and Calcaric Chernozem). On the basis of the obtained data it can be concluded, that the orthophosphate monoesters represent the most frequent phosphorus structural form, in the studied humic acids. Nevertheless substantial differences in the content of various phosphorus structural types were found among humic acids isolated from different soil types. The highest content of diesters (mainly diesters 2, 3) was observed in Planosol humic acid. On the contrary in Chernozem and Molic Fluvisol humic acids elevated amount of monoesters (mainly monoesters 1) was found. Based on these data it can be suggested higher availability of Planosol humic acid phosphorus to microbial and enzyme attack.
