Impact of white clover on leaf characteristics of selected sortiment of tall fescue

In a field experiment some leaf characteristics of eight tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea Schreb.) cultivars/hybrids were compared when growing as a monoculture and as a simple grass legume/ mixture with white clover (Trifolium repens L) cv. Hajek. The possitive influence of white clover on chlorophyll a + b concentration (SPAD values), leaf lenght and specific leaf weight (SLW) was confirmed. The mean values (eight cultivars, five samplings) of these parameters increased by 6%, 27% and 21% , respectively. Leaf width increased in the same condition bu 6%. The nitrogen concentration in the leaves of tall fescue assortment was increased by 9.6% in the treatment with white clover. The influence of white clover on tall fescue leaf characteristics was different over growing period.
