The paper presents new information on the results of inventory research of black truffles carried out in two localities of the Tribec mountains (Western Slovakia) in November 2003. Both localities are situated on the north-east slopes at an elevation of 290 and 385 m in Carpathian oak-hornbeam forests - Querco-Carpinetum medioeuropaeum. With the help of a trained dog, fruiting bodies of Tuber aestivum Vitt. (syn. uncinatum), Tuber brumale Vitt. and Tuber excavatum Vitt. were found in these localities. In the Slovak Republic are T. aestivum and T. brumale considered critically endangered species and extinct species, respectively. Habitats of occurrence of hypogeous fungi were characterized from the aspect of the pedological-geological and floristic structure. It was found that there is a relationship between truffles and host tree species Quercus robur(L.) and Carpinus betulus (L.). The soil in truffle beds contained 9.32% and 10.26% of humus, pH was 6.8 and 7.1 with a lower content of phosphorus. Parent rocks are Mesozoic carbonated rocks (Gutenstein limestones and palegrey laminated metamorphosed limestones). Documentary biological material, plants and truffle fruiting bodies are conserved in the herbarium of the Slovak University of Agriculture in Nitra.
