Sheep raising - the perspective sector of agriculture

Considering the ecological and employment aspects, the breeding of sheep undoubtedly belongs to the manufacturing portfolio of agrarian enterprises that have adequate conditions and sources for it. The objective of the contribution is to introduce development tendencies of selected commodities in breeding of sheep, present state of our sheep-breeding and tasks that need to be accomplished after EU accession. Sheep products have gained their permanent place among exported commodities in the agrarian commerce. Therefore nowadays, with the entrance into the European market structures only a close cooperation between breeders and processors will secure competitiveness of commodities of sheep breeding under conditions of increasing liberalization. At the same time, an acceptable quality and accessible price relations will decide on the share of sheep products on the global market. Competitiveness of sheep products will be achieved by higher quality, broader line of products, as well as by price accessibility, which is impossible without state subsidies and provision of financial support from the EU. There has to be an effective expansion of sheep breeding while protecting the environment and considering the sustainable development in our country in the future. The sheep breeding sector is competitive and has a development perspective.
