Influence of reproductive disorders on some productive traits in buffalo cows

The study comprised 993 buffalo cows from the Bulgarian Murrah breed with 3450 calvings, from the herd of the Agricultural Institute – Shumen for the period 1976 – 2006. Out of the total number of calvings 2987 were with normal pregnancy and normal calving and 463 were with reproductive disorders. The percentage of any reproductive disorder was calculated as a ratio between the registered disorders to the total number of calvings. The cases of calvings up to the ninth month i.e. up to 270-day pregnancy were referred to as abortions. The aim of the study was to determine the influence of reproductive disorders on some productive traits in buffalo cows. The following conclusions were drawn as a result of the study: The percentage of abortions, prolapse and still born buffalo calves towards the total number of calvings is - 2.69, 5.04 and 5.60 and towards the total number of reproductive disorders - 20.1, 37.6 and 42.3. The average duration of the lactation period for the buffalo cows with abortions, prolapse and still born buffalo calves is - 114, 94 and 234 days, and the milk yield - 546, 467 and 1182 kg. The highest percentage of culling and milk loss is observed in the buffalo cows with uterine-vaginal prolapse towards the other reproductive disorders.
