The aim of the study was to assess the actual productivity of the ewes from the Bulgarian dairy synthetic population (BDSP) at different lactations. The study was carried out with BDSP ewes from the experimental farm of IAS- Kostinbrod. The study began in November 2006 and ended in June 2007, covered lambing and lactation. The study included 33 ewes at first lactation, 25 at second lactation, 14 at third and 15 at fourth and upper lactation and their lambs born in the same lambing. The prolificacy and milk production during the suckling and milking only periods were studied. The recording of traits was done according to the Instruction for control of productive traits, 2003. The obtained information was analyzed with the statistical methods of the computer program ANOVA. The prolificacy was 131%. The live weight of lambs at lambing and at weaning was 4.87 kg and 20.86 kg. The average daily gain to the weaning of lambs was 0.266 kg. The average daily milk yield per ewe for the control day during the suckling period was 1.66 l. For the ewes at second lactation it was significantly higher (1.84l) compared to the ewes at first lactation (1.55 l) (P0.05). The milk yield for standard 120-day milking period was 110 l, and the average daily yield - 0.918 l. The highest daily yield (1.73l) and milk yield for a 120-day milking period was that of the ewes at second lactation. On the basis of the milk yield for a standard 120-day milking period, respectively 40%, 18% and 24% from the ewes were referred to the following classes: Elite –Record, Elite and First. A good half (61%) of ewes at first and second lactation exceeded with 10% to 20% and over 20% the first class requirements for milk yield and they were referred to classes Elite and Elite-Record. On the basis of the results obtained in this study a positive estimation could be given to the productivity of the ewes from the BDSP from the flock of IAS – Kostinbrod. The ewes from this flock are prospective as a selection resource because of their considerable genetic potential.
