Preliminary studies were carried out on the effect of the application of heat treated polybacterial antigen for immune prevention of mastitis in dry off and lactating cows. An increase of SCC, over 500 000 in 1 ml of milk, was found in all lactating test quarters, as a resukt of intracisternal and combined indication of the antigen. In a single subcutaneous application, we did not detect any considerable deviation from the standad cell content. At the induction of the polybacterial antigen during the dry period no deviations from the normal physiological parameters were found in the number of the somatic cells after the colostrum period.
