Response of different potato varieties to causal agent of early blight disease (Alternaria solani)

The paper deal with the early blight disease that seriously damage potato crops. We examined the response of some introduced potato cultivars to the casual agent of the disease. The investigation encompased fourteen cultivars in natural infectation back-ground. None of the studied cultivars proved immune or resistant to early blight. The varietes Picasso, Victoria, Provento, Ramus and Milva were categorized as moderately resistant. The remaining varieties were moderately sensitive to sensitive. It was obvious that potato varieties, cultivated in Bulgaria are not resistant to this disease. Early blight affects mainly early varieties and, to a smaller degree, medium early and late.
