[Condition and prospects of development of vegetable growing in Belarus]

In Belarus more than 900 agricultural organizations, including over 120 specialized organizations and the population with private and country plots are engaged in vegetable production. Areas under crops of vegetable cultures in economy of all categories in 2005 have made over 88,4 thousand hectares, including in the agricultural organizations - 14,2 thousand hectares, at the population and in farms - 74,2 thousand hectares. The volume of vegetable production in public sector in 2004 has made 279,3 thousand tons. Mid-annual consumption of vegetables per capita in 2004 has made 118 kg, that is low on 8 kg of scientifically proved medical norms. For improvement of all-season supply of the population by high-quality vegetable production and maintenance of the processing organizations with vegetable raw materials in wide assortment it is required to increase vegetable production in public sector and to create necessary base for their storage. The government accepts the Program of maintenance of requirements by vegetable production of domestic production taking into account creation necessary conditions of its storage for 2006-2010. The program provides to stabilize volumes of vegetable production in the agricultural organizations of Belarus in 2006-2010 in volume - 340 thousand tons, including vegetables of the protected ground - 76,7 thousand tons. Besides, 13,3 thousand tons of vegetables of the protected ground it will be made in other organizations having a hothouse economy
