Quality of life of retired farmers | Qualite de vie des paysans a la retraite

Rossier, R. | Felber, P., Station de recherche Agroscope Reckenholz-Taenikon ART, Ettenhausen (Switzerland)
The aim of this study is to determine the farmers quality of life after farm transfer. The conditions of the farm transfer have a major impact on financial provision for old age. Without right of abode, financial bottlenecks can occur in retirement, since the old-age/survivors’ pension cannot cover the current costs of living. Hard physical labour, scant leisure and burdens such as caring for one’s parents have left their traces in health terms. For many, giving up responsibility for the farm is a relief. Having time for oneself, one’s spouse or partner, one’s children or one’s siblings is of great importance for retired farmers after farm transfer.
