2008
Artukoglu, M.M.,Ege Univ., Izmir (Turkey). Dept. of Agricultural Economics | Olgun, A.
The aim of this study was to determine the main problems affecting the quality of olives and olive oil in Turkey, and to suggest some solutions. More than 40% of mills' managers stated that they had some problems with olive quality. These are unsuitable ways of transferring the olives, long waiting periods, unsuitable waiting conditions before the milling process, presence of foreign bodies among the olives, lack of warehouses and others. Some efforts have been already made to solve these problems, such as increasing the number of modern plants and supporting the farmers to produce high quality olives.
