Biological treatments of vernonia, Vernonia galamensis for adaptation and better performance under saline conditions

Two field experiments were conducted under saline conditions to study the effect of three levels of Bio-magic concentrations as a foliar application (1,2 and 3 Kg/fed.) and tap water as a control and four biofertilizer treatments of Azotobacter, Azospirilhm, phosphate dissolving bacteria and control on improving growth characters, yield and its components as well as chemical composition of vernonia plant under salin conditions. A split plot design with three replications was used. The main plots were devoted at random to biomagic foliar application treatments and the biofertilizer treatments in the sub plots. The obtained results could be summarized as follows. Generally, foliar application of biomagic led to improving different growth traits, yield and its components of vernonia as compared with the control during 1st and 2 nd seasons. However, moderate biomagic level (2Kg/fed.) was the super treatment, which achieved the highest mean values for plant height, no. of branches /plant, fresh and dry weights /plant. Also the same foliar application take the same trend for yield and its components as, plant height, no. of branches /plant, no. of eads/plant, 1000-seed weight, seed weight /plant and seed yield, under saline condition during I st and 2 nd seasons. In addition, seeds inoculation of vernonia with biofertilizer treatments enhanced growth, yield and yield attributes of vernonia plant as compared with the control during the two seasons. Azospirilhm, biofertilizer surpassed the other biofertilizer treatments for plant height, no. of branches /plant, fresh and dry weights /plant in 2003 and 2004 growing seasons. Also, the same biofertilizer treatment takes the same trend for yield and its attributes during the two seasons
