Spatial distribution of Coenosia attenuata Stein (Diptera: Muscidae) and of its preys in vegetable greenhouses in the Oeste region, Portugal | Distribución espacial de Coenosia attenuata Stein (Diptera: Muscidae) y de sus presas en invernaderos de cultivos hortícolas en la región Oeste, Portugal | Distribuiçao espacial de Coenosia attenuata Stein (Diptera: Muscidae) e das suas presas em estufas de hortícolas na regiao Oeste, Portugal

Se ha estudiado la distribución espacial del depredador Coenosia attenuata Stein (Diptera: Muscidae) y de insectos conocidos como presas, tales como moscas blancas y moscas minadoras entre otras, en invernaderos de pepino, pimiento y tomate, en la región Oeste (Portugal). También se han incluido los trips en este estudio. Moscas blancas y trips han sido los más abundantes, que igual que C. attenuata han sido detectados en mayor número en pepino en comparación a pimiento y tomate. No se ha observado un efecto borde para C. attenuata, trips y moscas blancas, y la distribución horizontal preferencial del depredador y el de estas presas, para las diferentes líneas y sectores de los cultivos, no fue igual. C. attenuata prefirió las líneas más soleadas de los invernaderos, al contrario de las moscas blancas y los trips, que tuvieron tendencia a localizarse en las líneas más a la sombra. En cuanto a la distribución vertical, las moscas blancas prefirieron la cara inferior de las hojas del estrato medio en pepino; las flores del estrato superior en pimiento fueron también muy atractivas (no se analizaron las del estrato inferior). El depredador se presento, principalmente, en la cara superior de las hojas en pepino y pimiento, en cuanto al cultivo del tomate prefirió el tutor, en detrimento de las plantas. En todos los invernaderos, el depredador se encontró también posado en las estructuras de los invernaderos (travesaños, alambres, tutores).

English. The spatial distribution of the predator Coenosia attenuata Stein (Diptera: Muscidae) and of insects known as its preys, namely whiteflies and leafminers, amongst others, was studied in greenhouses of cucumber, sweet pepper and tomato, in "Oeste" region (Portugal). Thrips were included in this study. Whiteflies and thrips were the most abundant and, like C. attenuata, they were more abundant on cucumber than in sweet pepper and tomato. It was not detected a generalized border effect for C. attenuata, thrips and whiteflies, neither an equal preferential horizontal distribution of predator and preys, in the rows and sectors of the crop. C. attenuata preferred the sunny crop rows, while whiteflies and thrips showed a tendency to be located in shadowed rows. In terms of vertical distribution, whiteflies preferred the lower page of leaves of the higher layer (in cucumber) or the lower one (in sweet pepper). Thrips preferred the flowers of the medium layer in cucumber; flowers of the higher layer in sweet pepper were also very attractive (those of the lower layer were not analysed). The predator was mainly located in the upper page of leaves in cucumber and sweet pepper, while in tomato it chose the tutor, and not the plants. In all greenhouses, the predator was also found settled in their structures (wooden bars, wires, tutors).
