Measurement of milk sialic acid levels in cows suffering from mastitis

Sialic acid is present in normal bovine milk, particularly in high concentration in colostrum and milk at the drying-off period (Martin, et al., 2001). However, very limited information is available on the changes in this compound in mastitis afflicted bovine milk. The objective of this study was to find out whether there is any correlation between the levels of sialic acid in milk and the severity of mastitis.
