Pathology of pneumonia encountered in captive wild carnivores of Assam state zoo.

A total of 22 carnivore carcasses belonging to Assam State Zoo-cum-Botanical Garden, Guwahati were diagnosed to have died of pneumonia classification on histopathological basis revealed nine cases of bronchopneumonia, eight cases of interstitial pneumonia, a single case of aspiration pneumonia and two cases each of fibrinous and granumlomatous (tuberculous) pneumonia. Pneumoconiosis was a consistent feature in all lungs in varying degrees with no significant cellular reaction around the deposits. Microbial isolation attmpted from some pneumonic cases revealed Diplococcus sp., Streptococcus sp. and E. coli organisms.
