Primary rumen impaction occurs in cattle and buffaloes mostly with depraved appetite (Jit singh et al., 1995). Rumenotomy is a common surgical intervention in large ruminants indicated for chronic indigestion, tympany, severe ruminal impaction etc. (Amalendu Chakrabarty, 1994) but, it is an uncommon operation in lambs. Published information, on ruminal impaction due to geophagia are scant. Hence, the present paper communicates the severe ruminal impaction due to geophagia in lambs and their successful surgical treatment.
