Metroglyph analysis of morphological variation in newly developed inbred lines of maize (Zea mays L.)
2002
Khumkar, M.S. | Singh, R.D., Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi (India). Div. of Genetics
Metroglyph analysis was done to study the morphological variation in 30 newly developed inbred lines of maize (Zea mays L.). The inbreds fell into 9 morphological clusters, with cluster I and cluster IX expressing maximum divergence. The index score values of the inbreds did not reveal their divergence pattern. The metroglyph analysis was found to be useful for preliminary classification of germplasm and its divergence study. It was also advocated that parents for hybridization programme should be chosen considering both per se performance and divergence of genotypes.
