In order to study the effect of planting date and plant density on yield and seed yield components of anise an experiment was conducted in 2004 at the experimental field of Bojnourd Azad University. The experimental design split-plot in the basic of randomized complete blocks with four replications, was used. Main plots consisted of three planting date (10 Mar. 13Apr. and 28 Apr) and sub-plots included four density levels( 13.33, 20 and 40 plant/m2). The results showed that planting date, density levels and their interaction had significant effect on measured traits. By delay in planting number of umbel per plant and umbelet per umbel, number of seed per umbelet, seed yield, plant height and biologic yield significantly reduced but 1000-seed weight significantly was increased. However no significant difference for number of seed per umbelet between 13 April and 28 April. also planting dates had not any significant effect on harvest index. The increasing plant density incressed seed yield, biologic yield, plant height and 1000-seed weight but decreased number of umbel, umbelet, number of seed and harvest index.. In the traits number of seed per umbelet and 1000-seed weight had not significant difference between density of 13.33 and 20 plant/m2. On the whole, the maximum seed yield of anise were obtained at the frist planting date with 40 plant/m2 density.
