The use of urea-molasses block in feeding of dairy buffuloes in Khuzestan

This experiment was conducted to assess the effect of urea molasses block (UMB) on daily feed consumption , milk yeild and milk components of dairy buffaloes . This experiment was carried out in a 4×4 latin square design with two replications. The rows of square were 28 day periods of experiment and columns were different number of parturition of buffaloes. Treatments(rations) were:(T1) conventional ration in the region, (T 2) the standard ration based on NRC(1989), (T 3) the ration with 20 percent below NRC and (T 4) the ration with 30 percent below NRC. In the treatments of T 3 and T 4 , additional UMB was offered to the animals ad libitum. Records were collected including dairy milk yeild, milk components (Fat % , Prot. % and SNF% ), live weight change, daily dry matter intake and daily intake of UMB. The UMB cotained molasses , urea, sugarcane pith, calcium carbonate , salt and bone meal in the proportions 50 , 10, 20, 10, 5 and 5 percant (DM basis). The UMB provided in the wooden moulds in 25×15×10 cm dimensions. There was not any significant difference between means of daily milk yeild and milk components of treatments (p 0.05 ) . Means of 4% FCM milk yeild for treatments T1, T 2 , T 3, and T 4 were 11.98 , 12.57, 12.03 and 11.44 kg respectively and differences were significant (p 0.05). Among treatments, the T4 had minimumes of DMI (12.9kg), cost of daily feed consumption (6354.90 Rial) and cost of feed consumption per one kilogram of milk yeild (568.40 Rial) and differences between treatments were significant (P 0.05 ). Means of daily consumptim of UMB in T3 and T4 were 1.47 ± o.142 and 1.41 ± 0.109kg respectively. Feed restriction (20 and 30 percent) in T 3 and T 4 decreased animal live weight. The results of this experiment suggest that UMB could be substituted up to 10 percent of total daily feed intake of dairy buffaloes.
