Structural analysis of rice [Oryza sativa] crops in Vietnam: For increase in rice crops based on index decomposition analysis
2008
Yamashita, T.(Japan Bank for International Cooperation, Tokyo)
This study analyzes structural changes of rice production productivity in Vietnam between 1986 and 2004. To do so, we use Index Decomposition Analysis method, in which 'Area Expansion', 'Area Intensity' and 'Yield' are assumed to be factors characterizing rice production. 'Area expansion' is area of agricultural land for rice crop. 'Area intensity' is frequency of rice planted. 'Yield' is rice productivity. Findings suggest a tendency of production intensification exists in all provinces, since strong increases in 'Yield'.
