Control of fungal infection in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss eggs by using antimicrobial coating

We examined the antifungal efficacy of antibacterial coating against fungal infection in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss eggs. KENIFINE is a specialty electroplating technology, which produces antibacterial properties on stainless. Results of antifungal laboratory test showed that metal plate coating with prevented growth of fungal filament Saprolegnia diclina. Antibacterial coating plated stainless wire netting of hatching tray were used to store fertilized eggs. Effects of antibacterial coated netting were examined including prevention of fungal growth on the surface of dead eggs, infection to nearby lived eggs and enlargement of fungal damage. Fungal infection ratio in dead eggs of non-coated stainless was 91.9%, while in antibacterial coated stainless, the ratio was 52.2%. Hatching rate of antibacterial coated was 59.9%, twice as non-coated stainless. Antibacterial coating was observed to be not toxic to development of eggs.
