This book contains information about the history of Latvia soil taxonomy starting from 1920-ties until present. A brief overview about soil formation factors and soil regions is given. Layout of present classification scheme, principles of soil grouping in taxonomic units are described. Soil types and subtypes are characterized in details. The use of traditional genetic approach for soil classification is proposed by authors to keep the unity of soil data which are compiled during the century. At the same time some guidelines is proposed by authors for correlation of Latvia soil units with WRB, which is important for international information exchange. Finally the glossary of terms is given to make use of this book more productive. Short summary of book content in English is found on pages 143-149.
