The objective of the study was to investigate the possible changes in functional state of the calf's abomasum in the relationship of calf's age and milk replacement feeding. We summarize the data about the dynamics of pH, obtained by examination of 10 calves at the age between two and 14 weeks. It is a small part of complex research about the organism and especially stomach functional adaptation to ruminant status. The intra-abomasal pH was determined by the uninterrupted long-lasting (12 h) potenciometrical intragastric pH measurement method using two-electrode pH-probe which was inserted through the abomasal fistula. We compared intra-abomasal pH dynamic before and after calf feeding with whole milk, with the same animals at the age of 5-14 weeks, also to ascertain the influence of milk replacement feeding on abomasum functional state in 5-14 weeks old calves. We established that 15-10 minutes before routine feeding the radical increase of abomasum acid level was obtained, in calves at the age between 1-4 week pH level reached even 1.3. We established intra-abomasal pH 4.0 in five till 14 weeks old calves after whole milk feeding. The lowest acid level was obtained in the first hour - not during 1.5-2 hours as it was in two - four weeks old animals. In 5-14 weeks old calf intra-abomasal pH changes were different between animals who received whole milk or milk replacement.
