The role of education in adults' career development | Izglītības loma pieaugušo karjeras attīstībā

One of the preconditions for welfare and successful career development in life is individual's involvement in lifelong education based on the necessity to acquire and improve his/her knowledge, skills and competences caused by person's internal need or external factors. In the education system of Latvia adults still are not identified as the largest target group of education, thus there is no adequate offer ensuring long-term productive participation in the labour market and civic society taking into consideration individuals' learning goals and abilities. Older people are 1) one of the social exclusion risk groups in the society, 2) contingent which in education is oriented towards acquisition of practically applicable knowledge. The research characterizes the peculiarities of middle-aged adults' education and traces the criteria for the choice of the kind and program content of adult education.
