[Physiological and biochemical aspect of heterosis phenomenon in cucumber, Cucumis sativus L.]

The aim of the investigation has been to study the content of total proteins, catalase activity and content of nucleic acids in parental lines and F1 hybrids of Cucumis sativus, in the context of breeding for heterosis, in order to reveal markers predicting heterosis. Plants in the stage of three true leaves were subjects for study. The results revealed that there are certain regularities between the physiological and biochemical parameters studied and heterosis phenomenon. These parameters can forecast the heterosis in early developmental stages of the plants.
