[Influence of Orobanche cumana Wallr. of diverse origin on the content of nucleic acids in sunflower]

Hybrids and their parental lines of two sunflower varieties (Valentino and Xenia) were subjects for study. The plants were grown in pots with soil mixture uniformly infested by broomrape seeds proceeding from three geographic regions: Republic of Moldova, Rostov and Volgograd. The samples were harvested at the end of one week after the appearance of broomrape on soil surface. An evident decrease against the control was noted in the content of nucleic acids (NA) in leaves of the studied genotypes infested by broomrape from all three regions. The content of total NA in heterozigous genotypes was higher as compared with parental homozigous genotypes, this being expressed at the expense of RNA increase. The comparative study of the two varieties revealed a variation of RNA/DNA relationship under the action of parasitic plant, this being determined by the intensification or blocking of transcription processes. The degree of resistance of the studied genotypes by the total content of NA was revealed: more resistant to broomrape was Xenia variety; the Orobanche population of local origin showed a greater tolerance in comparison with the populations from Rostov and Volgograd.
