High Value Commercial Crop Development Program techno-demo farm project at the BPI-LBNCRDC was perceived to showcase the new technologyon Pressurized Irrigation (drip irrigation and fertigation system)in production of high value commercial crops in the open field and also to determine the economic viability of using the technology. Production of High Value Commercial Crops (HVCC) such as super sweet corn, eggplant, diakon foliage, lettuce and cucumber in the open field are profitable ventures. The use of drip lines and pressurized irrigation makes water and fertilizer use more efficient. Manual labor in terms of watering and fertilizer application is reduced, thereby minimizing the most laborious and time consumable watering of the crops. For pests and diseases, tussock moth, cutworm, squash beetle and fruit borer were the most damaging insect in the open field for cauliflower, daikon foliage and eggplant, respectively. Private entrepreneurs were the most interested in the technologies being showcased. These clienteles represented different provinces nationwide who regularly consulted the staff through telephone, e-mail and farm visit.
