Floristic composition of eleven wadis in Gebel Elba, Egypt

A total of 377 species have been recorded in eleven surveyed wadis of Gebel Elba district; annuals (43.2%), perennials (56.2%). One hundred fourteen species are confined and 57 species are recorded for the first time in this district. Taxa of Sahara regional subzone (SS1), Arabian regional subzone (SS2), Nubo-Sindian local centre of endemism (SS3) Somalia-Masai regional centre of endemism (SM) and Sahel regional transition zone (Sa) are represented by higher numbers of plant species as compared with other floristic elements. Most of Gebel Elba species were pluri-regional (34.7%), followed by tri-regional (30.0%), bi-regional (25.7%) and mono-regional (9.5%). Fifty three species (14.1%) were cosmopolitan, pantropical or palaeotropical.
