Limnological study on the freshwater of Salgrah Stream (Pakistan) was carried out for the first time during 2006. Altogether 291 algal species belonging to 108 genera and 10 phyla i.e. Cyanophyta with 68 species and 21 genera (23.37 %), Volvocophyta with 107 species and 40 genera (36.77 Euglenophyta with 16 species and 4 genera (1.72 Dinophyta with 5 species and 2 genera (1.72 Chrysophyta with 3 species and 2 genera (1.03 Bacillariophyta with 66 species and 19 genera (22.67%), Xanthophyta with 5 species and 5 genera (1.72%), Chlorophyta with 18 species and 13 genera (6.19%), Charophyta with 2 species and one genus (0.7%) and Vaucheriophyta with one species and one genus (0.34%) were recorded. The algal species of Volvocophyta were found to be the most dominant and the next prevalent species were of the phylum Cyanophyta and Bacillariophyta. Minimum numbers of species were found in those of Charopbyta and Vaucheriophyta. The present work shows changes in the physico-chemical factors along with algal flora in the stream during collection period and a correlation of different ecological factors.
