Pakistan's edible oil import bill ranks first among the imported food items. Efforts have been made by the Government of Pakistan to enhance domestic oilseed production. Different econometric techniques like regression and correlation were used to measure the trends in the edible oilseed and edible oils. Area under oilseed crops was found to be increasing consistently during the past two decades with area under non-traditional oilseeds expanding at a higher rate compared to the traditional oilseeds. It is suggested that focus should be tilted towards oil plants like Oil Palm yielding man times higher yields than the oilseeds being produced at present. In the present scenario small-scale oil expellers need to be introduced at farm level.
