This study was developed to investigate the effect of environmental pollution on the nutritional contents of Ulva rigida C. Agardh (Chlorophycota). The use of this opportunistic seaweed was explored as an indicator of seawater pollution. The total protein and total dissolved carbohydrate contents of the alga and physicochemical variables of the seawater were determined. It was observed that the total protein content of the alga exhibited positive correlation with NH3-N and a negative correlation with BOD5 values, and so it appeared that protein contents of U. rigida are higher in inorganic polluted water. Carbohydrate showed a negative correlation with pH values and no relation was found between total protein and total dissolved carbohydrate.
