The paper discusses the results of studies conducted at the Department of Commodity Science and Animal Improvement, concerning indirect methods for estimation of the carcass lean and fat content in ducks and geese. Regression equations enabling to estimate meat content in live birds, derived at the end of the 1970s, are presented. These equations were introduced within the framework of breeding programs implemented at the Department of Waterfowl Breeding (a duck farm) in Dworzyska and at the Experimental Station of the National Research Institute of Animal Production in Koluda Wielka ( a goose farm)
