The objective of the study to compare the contents of some selected nutrient components contained in the grains of three new brown hull oat strains (black oat) and in the grains of two leading cultivars (Bohun and Deresz) in term of their use value, which are commonly grown in Poland. The contents of the following components were determined: starch fibre, pentosans, beta-glucans, and phytinians. Compared with the cultivated varieties of Deresz and Bohun, the black oat strains studied contained significantly less starch and higher amounts of crude fibre. The level of ani-nutrient components varied in the examined oat samples and depended on the oat variety. The quality evaluation of the new oat strains allows for orienting the oat cultivation, as well as for selecting strains for the consumption
