In the pot experiment the effect of increasing doses of calcium carbonate (0, 0.5, 2.0 g/cubic dm) on the contents of Cd, dry matter, ascorbic acid and some minerals in the spinach leaves was studied. Increasing doses of calcium fertilizer decreased the Cd accumulation by the plants. High content of Cd was accompanied by the lower dry matter and N-nitrate contents. There was not a significant effect of Ca concentration in the root zone on the content of ascorbic acid in the spinach leaves
