Antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of Hypericum perforatum L., Hypericum maculatum Crantz and Hypericum olympicum L.

Antimicrobial activity of the essential oils of Hypericum perforatum, Hypericum maculatum and Hypericum olympicum was determined by dilution method. The oils of Hypericum olympicum, was the most active against Salmonella enteritidis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis. The most susceptable to oil of Hypericum maculatum were Klebsiella pneumoniae and Sarcina lutea. Antimicrobial activity of the oils of Hypericum maculatum and Hypericum olympicum on Escherichia coli, Candida albicans and Aspergillus niger, was the same. The oil of Hypericum perforatum showed the lowest activity on all the microorganisms tested.
