This thesis presents the results of investigation of the heavy metals content: lead, cadmium and mercury in the food of animal origin, children food, dietary food and fodder from the territory of Montenegro. The content of other heavy metals: arsenic, zinc, copper, manganese and iron was mainly investigated in the products packed in tin containers, children food and dietary food. This investigation included a two-year period (2005 and 2006), during which a total of 627 products were investigated classified into 13 different categories. A total of 5.42% of products were from domestic production, while the remaining 94.58% were imported from 39 different states. The largest number of samples was investigated upon a request of the Veterinary Inspection of the Republic of Montenegro, and a much smaller number was investigated upon a request of the producer itself. No content of heavy metals above the MPL value was determined in the products of domestic production.
