The experiments were carried out under natural conditions on the fields of Institute PKB Agroekonomik in Padinska Skela (Serbia) during 2004 and 2005. The ratio of female component rows to male component rows was 4:2. The sowing density of female component was G1 43.300 and G2 47.600 plants/ha. At sowing with narrowed rows, the female rows were sowed at 70 cm and 85 cm between the rows, and the male rows were sowed at every other row spacing. Sowing density of female component G1 58.600 and G2 64.300 plants/ha. Motherly hybrid components Boris-5 and Biser 4 were used as the experimental material. Hybrid Biser 4 sowed in narrowed line achieved significantly higher grain yield and a smaller percentage of cob regard to hybrid Boris-5. Better randman results in both hybrids are realised in the classical system of sowing. Weight of 1000 grains and the length of a clip as a component of yield has not had a direct influence on grain yield. Hybrid Biser 4 achieved a higher number of rows of grains per cob regard to the hybrid Boris-5, which is directly reflected on yield. This study shows that the shape and size of seeds did not have a decisive importance for germination. When deciding about sowing density and sowing pattern of maize, we must respect the facts about the existence of different reactions of certain lines on the density and the number of rows mother and father.
