The first experiment tested the influence of birth weight of pigs on their growth dynamics and feed conversion efficiency during nursing and weaning period until 75 days old. The experiment included 164 piglets classified into 4 groups which varied in their birth weight. During lactation period, we observed the growth dynamics of these pigs. After weaning and measuring, pigs of certain groups were signed out into separate cages and fed with standard mixtures of the same structure until 75 days old. The results of this experiment show that birth weight reduction leads to statistically justified reduction in daily growth increase during the nursery period and until 75 days old. Weaned pigs of smaller birth weight also have worse feed conversion. The second experiment included 60 piglets of small birth weight (under 1000 g) classified into two groups. The first group was treated with Vetadex and the second with the same medicine and vitamins AD3E. The application of Vetadex solely or its combination with vitamins led to daily growth increase and more efficient feed conversion both in the nursery period and until they reach 25 kg of weight. In spite of noticeable effect of Vetadex and vitamins AD3E application, the accomplished growth in treated groups of light pigs is much lower compared to pigs with larger birth weight. This means it is necessary to conduct a research in the next period in order to reduce the number of pigs with small birth weight.
