Previous research has shown that sulphur is an essential constituent element in plant nutrition. Its importance has been linked to the assimilation of nitrogen and phosphorus in plants. It is through that the application of sulphur affects the formation of amino acids in the plant and that excess sulphur may bring about yield losses and disrupt protein synthesis. Over the years, one of the focuses of sulphur research has been the role of this element as a pollutant. In recent years, studies on sulphur have focused on the element circulation in agroecosystems and the development of methods for sulphur determination.
