Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to the lands along or near the Mediterranean Sea, where it grows voluntarily or is successfully cultivated. In Serbia, the plant is successfully cultivated on almost all types of soils. Effects of different sowing dates, from the beginning of March till the end of the second decade of May, on the beginning of harvest, as well as, on quality and yields of seed were observed on the present study. The four-replicate trials were set up in the location of Pancevo during March, April and May. It was established that the late sowing date (May 7 and May 17) provided faster emergence, but not a single succeeding stage occurred, hence harvest failed. The highest yield and the best quality of seed were achieved by sowing on March 7 and March 17.
