The region of Toplica lies within the area of 2230 square km and its diverse terrain represents an especially geomorphological heterogenous environment. Geological stratum of the region of Toplica consists of the metamorphous, igneous and sediment rock. The basic soil type of the Toplica vale and hillside is a co-called smonica, originated from the lake sediment. In the region of Toplica genus of Achillea is represented by its dominant species, with espressed phytochemical and microbiological characteristics. The research results concerning the presence of heavy metal have shown significantly higher values in the urban and industrial area, than in referent sites, where the values ranged from low to respective. This research, namely measuring the heavy metal content in plant tissues (leaf + flower), has illustrated the relationship between the heavy metal content and the distance from the contamination source, as a falling gradient. The fact that proves that some of the Achillea species may have developed a tolerance to the heavy metals mentioned in this paper is that even high concentrations of lead (79.89 mg/g), and chrome (35.18 mg/g) cause no morphological changes.
