[Immunoenzyme test system to estimate immunity in cats and dogs vaccinated against rabies]

A sensitive and specific teat was developed on the basis of indirect enzyme immunoassay (EIA) allowing for a short time (3-4 h) to estimate the level of immunity in blood sera (BS) of dogs and cats vaccinated against rabies. The content of 0.5 IU/ml is minimum measured antibody titer (AT) which is the level of immunity correlated to the possible protection from rabies infection. The BS from animals primarily vaccinated for prophylactic purposes (group 1) were studied, 1 year after vaccination (group 2) and not vaccinated before (group 3). The BS of cats and dogs were studied in EIA at days 7, 14, 30, 60 and 90 after a single administration of anti-rabies vaccine and showed the similar pattern of dynamics of accumulating virus-neutralizing antibodies. High content of anti-rabies antibodies in BS in dogs (2.4 and 5.3 IU/ml) and cats (1.6 and 4.4 IU/ml), respectively with 30 and 90 days was supported in NT. The correlation coefficient (CC) of the results of the 2 methods of studying these BS was 0.98% testifying the efficacy of using EIA for evaluating the postvaccinal effect in dogs and cats. In the animals of group 2 in EIA sufficient anti-rabies immunity (dogs – 0.6 IU/ml and cats – 0.5 IU/ml) was found, CC of the 2 tests was 83%. Studying the BS of group 3 animals found the low level of anti-rabies antibodies (less than 0.5 IU/ml) in 86% of dogs and 82% of cats. On the basis of that the diagnostic sensitivity of EIA relative to NT was 86.4%, specificity – 95% and coincidence of the results – 91.2%, it is concluded that using these two tests for evaluating the efficacy of vaccine prophylactics and seromonitoring of rabies in dogs and cats is possible
