The influence of BAP (benzylaminopurine) on fatty acid composition and ratio of phospholipids from maize coleoptiles and roots

The etiolated 4-day maize (Zea mays L) seedlings were a research object. The cytokine (BAP) treatment of the roots or coleoptiles caused the change of phospholipid fatty acid composition in microsomal fraction. Palmitic acid content (16:0) in phosphatidylcholine (PC), phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) and phosphatidic acid (PA) raised on 10-20%. At this linoleic acid content (18:2) fell down sharply in PC and PA composition (in 3-10 times). BAP influence on phospholipase D (PLD) was defined on the change ratio of substrates (PC and PE) and PLD products (PA). The root treatment had no effect on PLD activity in contrast to the coleoptile one. The cytokine treatment caused increase of the PA level in 3 times, whereas the PE content decreased and the PC content did not change. The effect could be explained by PLD activation under BAP that had PA as a substrate.
