The effects of feeding milk substitute with synthetic fatty acids C7, C9 on performance and lipid metabolism

The addition of synthetic fatty acids (FA) of C7 (heptanoic) and C9 (nonanoic) fractions into sheep milk substitutes (SMS) is studied. The object of the studies is lipid metabolism and live weight gain of yeanlings of Romanovskaya breed. Three groups of the 2-3 day-aged lambs have been formed by 6 ones in the each group. The 1 group (control one) has received the standard SMS, the other trial groups (2 and 3) have been fed by the SMS with FA addition at the amount of 3 and 5 % respectively. The feeding of trial SMS contributes the increase of live weight gain by 9.6% and 14.1% respectively and solid, lipid and nitrogen digestibility. The addition of short chain FA has not influenced significantly on total lipid content and their fatty acid composition in the blood plasma and lamb tissues in the sucking period. It is recommended to use synthetic FA C7 and C9 in the SMS composition at lamb growing
