Eimeriosis and isosporiasis of fur animals

At 3 fur farms of the Moscow region over the period of 1999-2006 the examination of youngsters aged 1-3, 3-6 months and adult fur animals: polar foxes, foxes, mink, sables and lynxes for isosporiasis (II) and eimeriosis invasions (EI). The different degree of infectivity with isospores and Eimeria of fur animals was found in every farm. The highest extensity of these invasions was observed in farm 3. The highest II extensity was observed in 1-3-month-old animals, the least one – in adult animals. The first detection of isospores in youngsters was recorded at days 15-28. The maximum level of this invasion were observed in June and July, the minimum one – in December till February. The negative influence of coccidiosis invasions on the fur quality was found. The efficacy of anti-coccidiosis agents given with feeds was studied on young animals aged 2-2.5 months. The animals received toltrosuril suspension, sodium salinomycin (SS), metronidasol. The control group had no treatment. 100% efficacy of toltrosuril was observed for young animals at the doses of 25-30 mg/kg of body weight, for adult animals – 30 mg/kg of body weight. The similar efficacy was observed for SS at the doses of 25 and 30 mg/kg of body weight. The extensefficacy of metronidasol was 80% for eimeriosis of foxes and 100% for the similar inmvasion of polar foxes. The economic effect of application of toltrosuril and SS for both the invasions per 1 animal, compared to the control, was 208.4 and 210.8 rub. These agents are recommended for use to prevent coccidiosis invasions and economic damage at fur farms
