The study was conducted to determine the effect of feed intake level on standardized ileal digestibilities (SID) of crude protein (CP) and amino acids (AA) in piglets. In total, 36 seventeen-days old barrows with an average initial body weight of 6.7 177; 0.82 kg were used in 3 consecutive experiments with 3 periods and 12 piglets each. The piglets were surgically fitted with simple T-cannulas at the distal ileum. The assay diet consisted mainly of cornstarch, casein and different batches of soybean meal. The assay diets were fed at 3 graded levels of feed intake corresponding to 30, 45 and 60 g/kg body weight (BW). The standardized ileal digestibility of CP was 87.3, 87.0 and 86.2 % for the 30, 45 and 60 g/kg BW feed intake level, respectively. The SID of AA did not differ between the 3 levels of feed intake (P0.05), except for isoleucine, methionine, aspartic acid, cysteine, glutamic acid and proline, for which the SID values were 1.6, 1.0, 1.4, 3.2, 2.1 and 0.9 percentage units lower at 60 g/kg BW compared to 30 g/kg BW feed intake level (P0.05). In conclusion, variations in the level of feed intake between 30 g/kg BW and 60 g/kg BW had only minor impact on the SID of some AA in piglets.
