In appropriately stored pesticides, uncontrolled dumps of unused pesticides and their containers produce sources for soil contamination, water pollution, and represent public health and biota hazard. We carried out the field research In the chemical preparation storehouses in the Eastern Slovakia - three agricultural companies in the surroundings of Košice, one in the district of Michalovce, and two in the district of Trebišov. The agricultural companies privatised the storehouses of chemical preparations, which comprised both old and unidentifiable pesticides and their containers. The research showed that the agricultural entitles only store the old pesticides year after year, because their expensive disposal. In our research we found out that the storehouses contained most often root herbicides comprising 50% of the volume, fungicides In the amount of 18%, and Insecticides In the amount of 15%. 17% of unidentifiable pesticides and empty containers from pesticides represent the greatest potential hazard to the environment or public health. On the basis of the research we found out that the legislative relations on purchase and disposal of containers between the agricultural companies and suppliers of pesticides have not been resolved yet. Only the laws and their effective application are the real guarantee of maintaining and improving the present condition of the environment.
