Study of distributed environmental conditions and properties of salt affected soils was conducted on five locations in Korat Basin, Northeast Thailand. Results of the study revealed that these soils have different salt affected properties (EC, SAR, ESP). They can be classified into two groups in different locations, Pedons 1-4 are saline sodic soils whereas Pedon 5 is a sodic soil. These soils developed on alluvium, wash deposits and residuum derived from clastic sedimentary rocks on low terrace to depression area. They are deep, moderately to moderately highly developed. Salt patch and crust surfaces are clearly present in Pedons 1-4. The crystalline halite in voids, coating on quartz grain and mixing with clay are present in surface horizons of Pedons 1-4. The soil texture ranges from loamy sand to clay. These soils have high bulk density (1.53-2.26 Mg/cubic m). They are extremely acid to strongly alkaline (pH 4.2-8.7), with very low to very high electrical conductivity (a range of 0.4-114 dS/m), sodium adsorption ratio of mainly higher than 13 (ranges of 1.8-77) and exchangeable sodium percentage of mostly higher than 15 (range of 1.8-105 percent).
