Efficacy of controlled internal drug release (CIDR), gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), and prostaglandinF2 alpha (PG) on synchronization and fixed time artificial insemination (TAI) was studied in 67 native crossbreed beef cattle (mostly Brahman-native crossbreed). The animals were devided into 3 groups: group 1 (control, n=15) was inseminated after natural heat detection, group 2 (CIDR-PG-GnRH, n=26) was received normal saline on the day of CIDR insertion (day 0), PG at day 7 and GnRH at 60 h after PG injection and TAI, and group 3 (GnRH-CIDR-PG-GnRH, n=26), was received similar treatment as group 2 but animals were received GnRH on the day 0. Pregnancy was diagnosed by ultrasound at 40-60 days after insemination. The result showed that pregnancy rate of group 2 did not differ from control (38.5 percent vs 53.3 percent) (p GT 0.05) and greater than group 3 (15.4 percent) (p LT 0.05). In cows of group 2, pregnancy rate could reach 50 percent. Overall, for TAI, cows tended to have higher pregnancy rate than heifer and those that expressed corpus luteum (CL) on the day of CIDR insertion tended to have higher pregnancy rate than those without CL.
